Getting results from investments in economic development
The Development and Poverty Institute (formerly Development Portfolio Management Group—DPMG) is a newly formed research group that focuses on the evaluation of economic development investments, programs and institutions. CESR researchers affiliated with the International Development Initiative have broad expertise in development assistance projects including the evaluation of multilateral support to basic education; institutional capacity in higher education; education, health and sanitation policy evaluations, and, most relevant to this assignment, financial inclusion. The team proposed for the assignment has extensive experience in the design and management of interventions in the field of financial inclusion and digital financial services, some with a focus on female empowerment using rigorous mixed-method approaches. The team also has extensive experience in multi-country assignments spanning the Americas, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, among others. The research and evaluations conducted by the proposed team of researchers at CESR’s International Development Initiative has been supported by the Gates Foundation, the Master Card Foundation, the US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs, DFID, the World Bank the Inter-American Development Bank and various governments of developing countries.
DPI's mission is to help clients get intended results from their economic development investments.
DPI addresses the challenges faced by all those committed to economic development, including the governments of developing countries, multilateral development banks, bilateral donors, nongovernmental organizations, foundations, and the private sector.
The Development Challenge
Investing in development projects can be difficult.
If you are a funder, how can you ensure the effectiveness of the assistance your funding provides? How can you identify and address the many risks inherent in your ventures?
And if you are a developing country, or a organization undertaking these development projects, what assurances can you give to funders that their investments will achieve the desired results?
Through its prior operations as the Quality Assurance Group at the World Bank, the Development and Poverty Institute has more than 15 years of experience in obtaining results from investments in international development.
