Abstract:

This presentation is part of the CESR methodology brown bag series. Collection of self-report survey data is ubiquitous in social and economic research. In order to provide optimal data and inform policy decisions, it is essential that the information obtained from self-report surveys is as accurate as possible. In this presentation, I will provide an introductory overview of several response biases (e.g., recall bias, inattentive responding, the subjective nature of response scale labels) that can undermine the reliability and validity of self-report data.
