Abstract:

Amazon Mechanical Turk (MTurk) is a useful resource for conducting research in the social sciences. Whether you want to pilot your experiment or run the entire study, MTurk will allow for fast and efficient participant recruitment and data collection. During this brown bag I will cover the basics of how to use MTurk for research, including user interface, uploading the experiment, managing the participants, and downloading the results. I will review the pros and cons of running the studies on MTurk, describe the demographics of the MTurk participants, and discuss the ethical issues related to the use of MTurk. This brown bag can be of interest not only for the MTurk beginners, but also for the researchers with prior experience with this platform, as it will give the opportunity to share know-how and expertise.
